How to protect the diabetic foot skin balance

The pathological development of “diabetic foot” can be effectively managed adopting some simple – but fundamental – daily preventive measures.

In fact, diabetic foot is a chronic complication resulting from the nervous and circulatory dysfunctions typical of diabetes, often not easily recognized at its onset. Skin fragility and dryness, combined with reduced sensitivity in the foot, can lead to more serious outcomes in the long run: even small traumas or injuries, initially overlooked exactly because of the altered perceptions, can evolve into ulcerations and infections, triggering a long journey of outpatient care and repeated checkups due to slower healing times.

Such a complex condition clearly requires a multidisciplinary approach, which considers the importance of prevention and maintenance of the foot epidermal balance to minimize the risk of injury and recurrence.

It is precisely in this phase that a qualified professional such as the Podiatrist can contribute to the well-being of the diabetic foot, thanks to interventions and formulations aiming to support the district epidermal trophism.

The importance of orthodermic topical intervention

The rather significant incidence of diabetic foot (which affects about 15-25% of people with diabetes) shows how important is checking the area often, both independently and by consulting a specialist periodically to verify its health status.

Some preventive measures can also be adopted: among these are an adequate daily hygiene and the application of creams that respect and support the physiological balance of the foot epidermal tissues. The objective is to maintain a functional hydro-lipid barrier, necessary to avoid excessive dryness and skin cracking. Implementing these good practices is equally important in order to promote optimal re-epithelialization in the post-ulcerative phase.

DIAPODIL® Line, active prevention of diabetic foot skin alterations

Born from podolife® research, Diapodil® is the podiatric product line that protects the fragile skin of diabetic foot and support its natural repair processes.

It includes DIAPODIL® Foot Wash, an orthodermal cleansing solution with physiological PH, complementary to the preventive treatment of skin alterations in diabetic foot, thanks to components such as biotin and trans-traumatic acid. The formulation also contains a complex of functional substances useful to prevent the onset of infections.

DIAPODIL® Complex Emulsion for topical use has emollient, antioxidant and restructuring properties. The peculiar formulation is enriched by Adelmidrol, an active component able to promote epidermal balance.
