The foot and leg skin can often appear dry and thickened, due to the continue mechanical stresses to which the lower limbs are subjected, and many other factors contributing to the development of this condition. These include the use of tight and uncomfortable footwear, foot deformities (bunion, hammer toes, flat feet), intense physical activity, skin aging and skin diseases (psoriasis).
From a biological point of view, skin thickening (hyperkeratosis) is the physical manifestation of an altered balance: the accelerated production of keratinocytes, those cells creating the outermost skin layer, makes the tissues harder and thicker, yellowish in colour and prone to desquamation.
Although it is a natural body defence mechanism, repeated harmful stimuli lead to excessive activation of epidermal “sentinel” cells present in the vicinity of nerves and blood vessels – the mast cells -, which regulate the processes of skin protection and regeneration, in addition to the “pain threshold”.
From mast cell control to hyperkeratosis control
Normalizing the mast cell response therefore means being able to effectively control the keratinization process itself, restoring tissue functionality from the biological mechanism responsible for the alteration.
The PODOKER® line formulations have been developed for this purpose: the exclusive component Adelmidrol modulates mast cell reactivity, performing an anti-irritative action and promoting the balance of epithelial growth factors.
Targeted innovation for mild and severe lower limb hyperkeratosis
The two different podiatric gels of PODOKER® line – PODOKER® 20 GEL and PODOKER® 40 GEL – have been formulated to prevent and manage the more or less severe states of foot and nail hyperkeratosis, combining Adelmidrol with other components improving the skin appearance and well-being.
In particular, in PODOKER® 20 GEL, Urea 20% allows a controlled keratoregulating action, intervening on excessive keratin levels and thus making the skin soft and elastic.
In PODOKER® 40 GEL, on the other hand, Urea 40% promotes the progressive and controlled keratin breakdown, facilitating exfoliation and softening of areas with a high hyperkeratotic thickness.
In both formulations, Glycerine and Hyaluronic Acid moisturize the skin surface layers, while a vitamin complex strengthens the skin barrier, promotes cell renewal and correct keratinocytes differentiation.
