Active protection against foot and nail mycosis

Daily prevention is essential to counteract fungal infections of foot skin (dermatophytosis) and nail skin (onychomycosis), especially for patients with immune system dysfunction such as diabetes related.

Careful cleansing, performed with specific products, protects against recurrent and more serious bacterial infections, which are very difficult to treat. Dermatophytosis initially involves erythema, itching and skin flaking on the sole and between the toes, and cracks, vesicles and ulcers may appear in more severe cases. On the other hand, the nail affected by fungal infection tends to thicken, give off a bad smell and even break off, limiting or preventing individual activities.

The effective treatment of these mycoses, therefore, starts with a targeted control of those factors that promote microbial penetration, such as skin macerations due to excessive sweating.

Epitech Group wants to achieve this goal with the PODATLET® products line, studied to relieve the inflammatory state, strengthen the immune system, and thus prevent the infection from getting worse and becoming chronic.

This year a new medical cleanser for daily foot care is added to the drop, cream and pre-odorant powder formulations.

Regulating the immunological activity of mast cells to counteract mycosis

Foot is the body area that most frequently develops fungal infections. It is often exposed to harmful environmental factors, including fungi, yeasts, and moulds, that proliferate in wet heat places such as gyms and swimming pools. Plantar sweating caused by wearing sports or work shoes also predisposes to the development of infections. This explains the widespread occurrence of foot dermatophytosis or Tinea Pedis, not by chance also said “athlete’s foot.”

The presence of so many harmful stresses results in the over-activity of innate immune cells, mast cells, found in the foot epidermis and peri-ungual area. Mast cells are responsible for the release of pro-inflammatory substances, which cause skin irritation, pain, and scaling.

The innovative approach of PODATLET® line is based on the use of a molecule for topical application, Adelmidrol, that can regulate the activity of skin mast cells and, thus, reduce the symptoms of mycoses according to the body’s natural protective mechanisms.

Remedies for topical use targeting “athlete’s foot” and onychomycosis

In particular, Adelmidrol is present in PODATLET® Ultra Cream and PoliAct Drops, that are adjuvants in the treatment and prevention of fungal infections thanks to the mix of elements with an anti-irritative, bacteriostatic and re-epithelizing effect.

PODATLET® Adsorbent Powder, on the other hand, is indicated in case of excessive sweating, to regulate skin transpiration, and keep the foot dry even when socks and shoes are used for extended time, preventing the onset of macerative phenomena, bromhidrosis and mycosis.
